It was a powerful and beautiful day of learning, community and connection in Avi’s memory.

On February 9, 2014, in New York City, over 200 people honored Avi’s memory with a day of study and enrichment. Jews, Judaism, and Power: Perspectives from Jewish Law, Ethics, History, and Theology, created by ASF and Mechon Hadar and hosted by Columbia/Barnard Hillel, brought together students, professionals, and community members to deeply engage with the question of Judaism’s complex relationship to power.

Professors Michael Walzer, David Biale, Leora Batnitzky, Rabbi Shai Held and additional speakers explored the questions surrounding Jews, Judaism and power. The format of the day included an opening session, break out groups, lunch and a concluding panel.
